It's March 11 2026 and we had two weeks of temperatures in the low 80s And upper 70s in Macon Georgia where brood xix emerge could we have stragglers emerging in March this year.
I found one straggler and heard many singers back in 2009 (Brood II stragglers), so I am enthusiastic about them. I am interested to learn about the Fanwood situation.
Ugh I’m so excited Dan! I wonder how many will surface with that Shadow brood XV in Fanwood, NJ. I remember Elias said there was enough to chorus lightly for a few days!
I think Cicadas are called "zang cicaden" in Dutch (meaning "singing cicadas"). Krekel refers to the family Gryllidae of the order Orthoptera. Cheers (Groetjes).
Cicada in Surinamese language (Sranan Tongo) is called Siksi-Juru (seeksee-Uru): meaning 6 O'clock in the evening, referring to the time which they are mostly heard here. Even when people haven't seen or don't know the Cicada, they recognize the sound as being Siksi-Juru sound.
That is great to hear. Suriname should have many of the same cicadas that neighboring countries like Guyana, French Guiana and Brazil have. Perhaps some of these species.
This website opens a new world for me. I live in Suriname (South AMerica) with 93% forest cover. We probably may have new species here. It's a challenge now for me, to lookout and seek help in identification. This website gives me a lot of information, to start with. Cheers.
I have a cicada hanging out on my screen door, eaten the sliding glass door and the screen. It’s hard to tell its color because the light is behind it, it appears to be grey with grey eyes and tan legs. What I’m wondering about is the black bump on one side of its back. It has some black spots, also. None of the photos here seem to have that black bump on only one side.
@K.C. Queens has 4 species of cicadas: all are black, brown, green and while in color. Different patterns of color. Neotibicen tibicen tibicen (Linnaeus, 1758) aka Morning Cicada Neotibicen linnei (Smith and Grossbeck, 1907) aka Linne’s Cicada Neotibicen canicularis (Harris, 1841) aka Dog-day Cicada Neotibicen lyricen lyricen (De Geer, 1773) aka Lyric Cicada

They look odd but to think a group of insects being loud
Just saw my first cicada in Somersworth NH. My sister is visiting from SC, so she’s very familiar with them. She said she heard one yesterday, I told her she was crazy. Guess she’s not…
Here's what I believe your wrote (in English): "I sectioned the branch, on the portion where it inserted the eggs, and at each insertion I found egg packets, about 20 eggs at each sting." Sounds correct to me!
Hi! Thank you for this information! One was on my deck at about 1:00pm this afternoon (Hilton Head, S.C.) I have a photo but it doesn’t appear that I can attach it here.

Was there a chorus? Must’ve been a decent straggler emergence, cuz you gotta account for a lot to be satiated before they sing I would think.
