I never knew that, I never really dug up one before it’s ready to molt. But if it has a different eye color, when will it start to change color? Thank you a lot for responding Dan.
I live in Illinois not a far distance from the lake.
Which brood is it? My mom dug up a white eyed nymph so I am trying to figure out when it will molt.I love cicadas and love to see them hatch and turn into adults.
What county and state are you in. Nymphs have white eyes until they are ready to emerge.
Are these white eyed cicadas or marble eyed ones, blind? I noticed that the dead ones have black eyes, or even gold colored eyes… but I’m supposing that’s due to the fact that they are dead. I’ve never seen one with any of these color variations you posted here. Very interesting. In what part of the country were these found? Would love to know more… I am thoroughly fascinated by these creatures!
They’re not blind, just a different pigmentation or lack there of. You should be able to find one if you look for a very long time in an area where they’re currently emerging.
I think it is just plain old GROSS.
