According to reports on the message board, other cicada sites and the media, the emergence has begun in Long Island and Massachusetts. The only state not to check in so far has been New Jersey. I can speculate why, but I won’t in this forum.

I’m not sure but I ran across this web page looking for pics of what I assumed was a giant black fly , And he looks like brood xiv queens New York Aug 24 2025
@K.C. Queens has 4 species of cicadas: all are black, brown, green and while in color. Different patterns of color.
Discovered a cicada about 2″ long, dark eyes, whitish underside of head, today (July 3), in Watertown, MA. Seems early! I have taken some pictures.
We heard one this morning during breakfast in Hopewell Junction, NY.
