Brood XIV Stragglers in Ohio, Part 3

Filed under: Brood XIV | Magicicada | Periodical Stragglers | Roy Troutman — Dan @ 7:05 pm

Here’s another Brood XIV straggler from Roy Troutman’s yard. It’s hard to believe all that cicada once fit in that tiny skin.

    Roy T.,
Hello fellow Canon man!! Awesome picture!! I also used a Canon for my two shot here on the site and I can see the similarity in clarity. Mine was the PowerShot S3IS, also shot in macro mode. I really love the amount of detail both models have been able to capture. Good luck with your shots this season!!

    Hello Steve,
I use a Canon SD900 in macro mode. The camera also has to be set in manual mode & the exposure set to -2 otherwise the cicada & surrounding areas will be washed out. thanks for the compliments.

Seems we have an unusually high amount of stragglers we found this year. Perhaps its an indicator of a large XIV emergence.

  6. Thats a great shot.

My research group visited the Indiana University campus in Bloomington today, and we saw and heard M. cassini in the trees between the Chemistry building and the Memorial Union.
