Hello. I am from West Virginia and last weekend, we we’re working in the yard and I found what I thought was cicada larvae or adults or something that were buried in the ground. They were milky white and had little legs and didn’t move around much. Could you tell me if they are cicadas? I’m not an insect lover and am not looking forward to they “invasion.” I will probably be inside my house from the time they arrive until the time they leave. : ) Thanks a lot. — EMcool26 5\/4\/1999 [Ed: They might be cicada larvae, although almost every insect goes through a grub in the ground stage. I live in the Rockville, Maryland area. In the summer I hear a loud noise in the evening that I was told were crickets, but the noise is much louder than what I am used to hearing, I’m formerly of Illinois and we had many crickets there making a neat sound. Might the sound that I hear be the sounds of many cicadas? Thanx alot for any input to my wonderment. — Ron 5\/7\/1999 [Ed. You don’t need to shout pat.Cicada’s don’t damage flowers or shrubs, only deciduous trees, and the damage they do is minimal. Unless you have an orchard or a prize ornamental tree, I wouldn’t worry.
