{"id":21041,"date":"2025-04-05T11:50:39","date_gmt":"2025-04-05T18:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cicadamania.com\/cicadas\/?p=21041"},"modified":"2025-04-05T11:51:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T18:51:59","slug":"lesser-antilles-cicada-aka-chalumalna-martinesis-gets-a-new-tribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cicadamania.com\/cicadas\/lesser-antilles-cicada-aka-chalumalna-martinesis-gets-a-new-tribe\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesser Antilles Cicada aka Chalumalna martinesis gets a new Tribe."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Lesser Antilles Cicada<\/strong> aka <strong>Chalumalna martinesis<\/strong> is a cicada found in the Lesser Antilles islands, for certain in Saint Martin (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/taxa\/740466-Chalumalna-martinensis\">see sightings on iNaturalist<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Cicada researcher <strong>Allen Sanborn<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mapress.com\/jib\/article\/view\/2025.62.2.1\">has a new paper<\/a> titled <strong>Redescription, illustration and higher taxonomy of the Lesser Antilles cicada Chalumalna martinesis Boulard, 2001 (Hemiptera: Cicadidae: Cicadettinae)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This paper is of particular interest as it places Chalumalna martinesis this cicada in the Trible Lamotialnini, which is the same Trible as Magicicada periodical cicadas found un the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>From the Abstract:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe genus Chalumalna is reassigned to Lamotialnini Boulard, 1976 based on the presence of conjunctival claws on the aedeagus and the lack of a developed uncus.
