One Red Eye, One Blue Eye

Filed under: Brood XIII | Eye Color | Magicicada — Dan @ 12:18 pm

Talk about one in a million: Steve Turner found this Magicicada with one red eye and one blue (sort of like a Husky dog or David Bowie). This is one of the highlights of the emergence so far.

Except it’s not like David Bowie. Bowie’s eyes are the same colour, but on one eye, the pupil is permanently dilated due to a fight he was in as a youth. The pupil is the black part in the center, and the iris is the coloured ring around the pupil. Essentially, you can’t see Bowie’s iris because the pupil is so big. 😉

WOW thats like finding a needle in a big haystack. I am use to seeing red eye balls all over the place so its different to see two colored eyes.

Fantastic! Super! I would be tempted to have it preserved for the ages, after
it has mated of course. Who knows what it’s offspring will have! I hope you
played the lottery the day you found it,I’m sure the odds of winning were
better than the odds of finding that wonderful specimen.
