I found one of these in my backyard and i live in Tasmania. Is this normal?

    1. Dan says:

Well, there’s similar looking cicadas in Tasmania, like the black-eyed version of http://www.ozanimals.com/Insect/Red-Eye-Cicada/Psaltoda/moerens.html

We found two of them in Hopkins, MN. We thought it was a new species!

This one looks like T. linnei. The golden-brown markings just behind the mesonotum on the abdomen
is indicative of the species. Its too obscure to be T. pruinosa which is anothe common species in Ohio.
It would be nice to have a lateral view then we could have a look at the forward edge of the front forewing.
An extreme curvature there is also indicative of the species. It is also a male.
