Filed under: Australia — Dan @ 6:52 pm

Today we got a report of some Chocolate Soldiers in Sydney — that means one thing: it’s cicada time in Australia!

Here’s some previous posts:
Can you identify this cicada from Brisbane Australia?

Australia has the best cicada names

    thank you…
We live on the central coast near Lake Macquarie.
There are lots of “red eyes” around where we live.

  2. David E says:

    Hi Lachlan,
That is Psaltoda moerens (the “Red-eye”, obviously). Where around Sydney do you live as this is the first of this species I have seen this season? Plenty of Green Grocers (esp Camden) and Black Princes out( Homebush, Sydney and Macquarie Unis), but not many of the other larger species except for a massive emergence of double drummers (Thopha sp) at Hawks Nest. Lots of smaller stuff emerged in October, but the fluctuating hot and cold weather this month is taking its toll of them.
