Randal reported on our message board that Magicicada Brood XIX stragglers are emerging in Nashville.
Roy found this article in the Charlotte Observer calling for people to be on the lookout for stragglers.

I have many shells on my fence and saw a straggler emerged form his shell-pretty and white.

We have bucketfuls of these creatures since about four days ago. Today was a big day. The children and I have lots of “friends” to play with and study for the next little while. Cat hates them, dogs is fascinated by them.

Saw hundreds of them this morning – most still in “shells” some were already out – Goodlettsville, TN 5/14/10 – is this a “big” year?

Beth — believe it or not, next year is the big year. These stragglers — emerging a year early — are but a harbinger of things so come.

I have seen them on the Vanderbilt campus and also near Hillsboro and Woodmont in the past few days.

I’ve seen a few empty shells on my house and project truck in Lebanon, but I guess birds and squirrels are eating the adults up. I haven’t seen any adults at all.

I was out this morning and heard them for the first time this year..I am in Emory, Texas…..I love their sound….I am going out later today to take a look at the trees in the back of our property to see how it looks and if anymore will be coming out…..I LOVE TEXAS!

I had my very first encounter with a cicada about a week ago here in Nashville, TN. I was actually quite disgusted with it. Later that night, I had gone back to try to locate this bug and it was gone. Last night, I had again encountered another one and grabbed a photo just before my dog ate it. I hear that there will be a massive brood emerging next year and I can’t wait. I am now fascinated with this insect realizing that they live underground for 13 – 17 years.

The cicadas are out in force as of this morning. Hundreds of them are emerging from the ground in the back yard.

Have seen several near trees that have already molted. Many adults flying around the yard. Mowed over several in the yard this morning. They are definitely here! I’m over in the Antioch area near Harding Place and Antioch Pike.
