Well, there’s no trying involved here. If that furniture is made of wood then that cicada was successful
in laying her eggs in it!
Typically the females of cicadas with exposed timbals like Magicicadas and Okanagana like to lay their
eggs in live wood. The females of cicadas with covered timbals like the Tibicens prefer to lay their
eggs in dead wood. Any wood will do. I have several documented cases where tibicen females have laid
their eggs in pressure treated wood on peoples decks etc.
I can’t say for sure but the one in the video is a Tibicen chloromerus cicada.
