The T. chloromera here in central Mississippi all have mostly black mesonotums, with only occasionally very small brown patches. Gary Bunker's pictures of T. chloromera from the Northeast show larger brown patches. So, as a hypothesis, T. chloromera from the Northeast have brown patches.
