WOW the cicada's are so loud hitting a ear piercing level around our Westmont area and there are so many all over the place. A batch has come up in our yard everyday now for 8 straight days in a row. The Chicago land area gets them the worst and i am 25 mintues from down town Chicago. Last night I seen 3 mynths on our driveway when it was dark and I took a flash light to see where they were coming from and quickly seen 25 of them crawling on the side of our house. I didnt see exactly where they were coming from but they were also crawling on the sidewalk in front of our house and the driveway and I watch two shed their shell on our house. 1/2 hour later I checked them and the one who shed his shell was kicking on his back and so I put him in the grass. Some were shedding their shell write on our walkway in front of our house. 2 cute white ones were crawling on our driveway and I put them on the house. If you see a cicada with bent wings it means they fell when there wings were drying and they dried that way Sheri Tuskey from Westmont, Illinois

I was at my Aunt and Uncle's house in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on Memorial day. By dusk there were hundreds of Cicadas coming up out of the ground and on the trees. Tons of shells found everywhere! Sad to say, I live in Lake Villa, Illinois and have not yet seen any!

Dan, I'm pleased to see two of my cicada photos (pale orange eyes & upside down) made your list of favorites. Having driven 10 hours to photograph the cicadas, I'm glad someone found them interesting. I'm hoping to process some more images and get them posted on flickr as soon as possible.

Spring 2008 can't come soon enough. I'm already planning my trip to southern Ohio/northern Kentucky to photograph brood XIV.

Flickr is easy. Once you sign up for an account all you really have to do is find the images on your PC with their form and they're uploaded.

I just FINALLY saw my first one. Weirdly, I live in Wicker Park in Chicago, and came home to find one lonely little dude chilling out on my stoop.

I was totally stoked and dug my camera put of my bag and took pictures. I've been waiting 17 years for this. (I was 17 the last go-round, and have a vivid memory of the thought "Wow, I'll be *34* next time."

Here I am, and here they are, and well, here HE is:
